Mid-range devices are primarily preferable for those wanting a good phone for their hard-earned money. The key players in the market in Nepal are Redmi, Realme, and Samsung. Today, we have chosen two budget-centric mid-range phones; Redmi 10 and Realme Narzo 50A for comparison. Let’s find out which one is a better buy in our Redmi 10 vs Realme Narzo 50A article.
In terms of design, both phones boast a glass front, plastic frame, and plastic back body. Upfront, both phones have a teardrop notch but there is a difference on the rear side. Redmi 10 has a square camera module while Realme Narzo 50A gets a rectangular one. Also, there is an old-school physical fingerprint reader below the module on Redmi 10. Meanwhile, Realme Narzo 50A houses an embedded one on its power key which is better. Build-wise, Redmi provides Gorilla Glass 3 protection whereas Realme hasn’t mentioned any sort of protection.
Talking about the display, Redmi 10 has a 6.71-inch IPS LCD panel with HD+ resolution. Realme Narzo 50A boasts a smaller 6.5-inch IPS LCD panel with the same HD+ resolution. Both phones have a static 60Hz refresh rate. Realme does offer a better brightness with 570nits as compared to Redmi’s 400nits peak brightness. Rest apart, both displays should offer similar quality.
Under the hood, Redmi 10A packs in a Snapdragon 680 chipset. The 4nm node-based silicon is an Octa-Core processor with 4×2.4 GHz Kryo 265 Gold & 4×1.9 GHz Kryo 265 Silver cores. For graphics, it has Adreno 610 GPU. Likewise, Realme Narzo 50A has a Mediatek Helio G85 chipset on board. It is based on 12nm nodes though. But it has a better GPU here, Mali-G52 MC2 which has a 1000MHz frequency. To compare, Adreno 610 has a 600MHz frequency. While the benchmark shows a higher score for Snapdragon 680 as per Nano Review. Nonetheless, both phones should perform similarly but battery life will be better on Snapdragon 680 with 6nm nodes.

Talking about the optics, Redmi has a dual camera setup while Realme Narzo 50a offers one extra lens. The primary shooter is a 50MP f/1.8 lens on both devices. Redmi has a 2MP depth unit while Realme has 2MP+2MP depth and macro sensors. Both phones can click similar quality images due to the same resolution. Normally, both phones capture 12MP resolution shots under pixel-binning technology. Here, there are no ultrawide units on either of the devices. Realme does have a macro camera but it is more like a gimmick at this price segment.
On the front side, Realme sports an 8MP front camera while Redmi has provided a 5MP unit. So, selfies will be a bit better on Realme Narzo 50A. For videos, both phones can do up to 1080p at 30 fps max from the primary camera.
Here both phones have a 6000mAh battery and 18W fast charging support. Also, you get a 10W charger shipped inside the box for both phones. The battery life should be more or less similar. Talking about OS, Redmi 10 boots on MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11. MIUI is a feature-rich UI and offers customizations at the best. Realme Narzo 50A boots on Realme UI 2.0 based on Android 11. The choice is, however, personal preference as both are customizable skins.

Pricing is an important term, especially in this segment. The official price of the Redmi 10 begins at Rs.18,999 for the base 4/64GB variant. Similarly, Realme Narzo 50A retails at Rs.19,499 for the base 4/64GB model. For the 128GB storage variant, Redmi 10 offers you 6GB of RAM while Realme retains the same 4GB of RAM. It costs Rs.21,999 for Redmi 10 while it’s Rs.21,999 for Realme Narzo 50A for the highest variant.
Both phones are of the same genre and offer similar specs at similar prices. There is not a strong differentiating factor here. To nitpick things, Redmi’s Snapdragon 680 based on a 6nm node will be better in terms of battery life and overall performance. But Realme’s got a better GPU. If you are looking for some gaming in the budget devices, Realme Narzo 50A is a better value. But if you are a casual gamer, Redmi 10 is also good.

For optics, Realme Narzo 50A offers you a macro unit too but the quality is least expected from a 2MP resolution. Both have a 50MP main sensor. So, the verdict quite depends on OS/Skin. If you are an MIUI fan, you can go for Redmi 10 as MIUI 12.5 has tonnes of features. Or else, if you prefer Realme UI, you can opt for it. To be nitpicking, Realme Narzo 50A takes a very minimal lead with a better GPU for gaming and an 8MP front camera. While for battery life and overall performance, it goes out to Redmi 10. Also, you get 2GB more RAM for the higher variant on Redmi 10 with a couple of bucks more.
